The Holobiont Project is a continuous art and cultural project of projects, existing through an International network but based primarily in Athens, Greece. It is based on the formalisation of an already existing situation based on a multitude of artists and academics visiting Athens and seeking information, contacts and an understanding of the local reality, and us providing such content. We consider these exchanges to ideally offer opportunities in both directions and therefore advice and try to enable possibilities for artists and academics from Greece to work internationally and/or receive international assistance of various kinds to enable projects in Greece.
We are interested in creativity and the processes and relationships surrounding it, more than the commodity market of the art industry. We recognise the importance of seeing and understanding local contexts and a multitude of factors that both influence creativity and are influenced by it. Therefore we are attracted to cross-disciplinary analyses, gathering tools from fields such as anthropology, human geography, philosophy and various political theoretical approaches. Art is a form of expression in itself and we facilitate the creation of international interactions and collaborations to enable art production in ways that are beneficial for all involved. Where possible, we promote transparency in regards to production and financial matters, non-hierarchical organisation and mutually beneficial partnerships. We are constantly widening our local and international understanding and networks in order to enable a multitude of projects and do not see ourselves as being limited to specific artforms or theoretical projects. We exist through a networked infrastructure of galleries, art spaces and alternative venues, thereby infusing and mixing various artistic projects and individuals on the basic organisational levels. Our practical work involves exhibitions, presentations, research, publications, project development and education and is developed by a combination of available opportunities and our own interests. Our research and publications can be found under Documentation and updates about our activities are available in the Blog. |
